Why you can’t get a job during Faculty

Since I started to do recruitment, I received a lot of job requests from students no matter what company I worked for.

I encourage students to get professional experience. In this way, they learn things and they can show their proactivity.

But also I doubt that a job suits every student; maybe an internship or summer practice stages are more appropriate.

Here are some reasons why I don’t think you can have a full-time job during Faculty:

  • Because you don’t have enough knowledge to be productive on a job. Even if you did some projects at Faculty, there are not enough to understand and to work on real-projects.
  • You can’t take a full-time job and continue your studies. In most cases, a part-time job is not enough to end your tasks. That is the reason why companies don’t encourage part-time for most of the roles.
  • A summer job is not a solution in all industries. In most cases, in your first months, the company invests in your training. If your onboarding takes 2-3 months, then when your start to work on tasks?

Maybe it is not a general truth, but I think that for an unqualified job (like data entry or sales - roles where you don’t need a certain diploma), the onboarding takes only for some days. In these cases, a part-time or a summer job is suitable for both sides (employee and employer).

But for a specialized role (where you need a faculty in that domain), the learning process is more complex; it can’t be done in a short time. That is the reason why it won’t be a winning situation for companies.

If you are a student and you want a job, search for a context that will allow you the flexibility you need to end your studies. Be aware that this kind of job can be out of the domain where you specialize. Would be a fit for you?

Companies want long-time commitments. As a student, you can't guarantee this because you are at a level when you try things.
