How to protect yourself on the internet

This is not a complete guide or an expert perspective.

There are only some ideas from what I am doing:

  • Use strong passwords and try to be things that are not common sense (like your name, your birth, etc.). The easiest way to remember a strong password is to keep in mind a sentence that represents you and to make a password using the initials of those words, plus other numbers or signs.
  • Change passwords from time to time.
  • Use authentication in two steps - from the web, but also with your phone number. It will take more time to connect, but it is safer. I am hardly trying to convince my parents too on this habit - my dad already gave up.
  • Have multiple passwords (preferred on levels of importance of that account)
  • Keep your online accounts as clean as possible - if someone broke your account, you avoid losing important data
  • Use Security Suites - or better: ask for help from somebody who is an expert on this
  • Avoid phishing scams or just click and share content from every website you find. Maybe you remember that message “if you don’t share this content with at least 7 people you will have bad luck”? ;)
Something cute on this topic :)
