Being Humble

Personally, I start to perceive humbleness as a virtue when I had contact with western cultures. On their side, I saw appreciated the ability to value yourself without arrogance.

I think we associate humbleness with a weakness. Probably we were raised thinking that this is a sign of low self-esteem or a lack of confidence.

With today’s eyes, I think that it is important to stay humble because this will help you to develop stronger relationships with people.

Some thoughts on this:

  • The opposite of humble probably is overbearing. It has the advantage of giving you quick success. But this success has to be sustained in time. Humbleness asks you to work more, but this will give you stronger skills and the ability to adapt or to start again whenever needed.
  • Humbleness brings you compassion and empathy. You might say that we don’t always need to be like this, right? But most probably at least once we needed this from another person. So… we also have to have compassion and empathy.
  • Being humble keeps you a large perspective of things. In this way you allow yourself to make mistakes and accept a different option.
  • All the great personalities from history were humble.
  • Humbleness might bring you better results at work

We are the average of the five people you spend time with. So find those special persons who can highlight only your good things and who can help you to grow.

And be patient with yourself and with others.
